1. Who we are

Lagos Pet Buddies is run by Lara Moutinho and Rita Cruz, based in Lagos, Portugal. We are responsible (the “data controller”) for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What we collect

• Booking requests: your name, email, phone number, the service and dates you need, your area or address, and details about your pet.
• Pet information form: before the first booking we ask for practical details such as your pet’s routine and health notes, your vet’s contact, an emergency contact and access instructions for your home.
• Messages: anything you send us by WhatsApp, email or Instagram.
• Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe.
• Website use: basic technical data, such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit, collected by our hosting provider for security and statistics.

If you give us details about someone else, like an emergency contact, please make sure they’re happy for you to share them.

3. Why we use it

• To reply to you and look after your pet. We need this information to answer your request, arrange the booking and provide the service (steps before a contract and performance of a contract).
• To send our newsletter, only if you signed up and confirmed your subscription from the email we send you (your consent).
• To meet any legal obligations that apply to us.
• To keep the website safe and working, and to understand in general how it’s used (our legitimate interests).

We never sell your data and we don’t use it for advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We only share data with services that help us run Lagos Pet Buddies, and only as much as they need:

• WordPress.com (Automattic), for website hosting and our newsletter
• WhatsApp and Instagram (Meta), for messages and booking requests
• Notion, for our pet information form
• Google, which provides the fonts used on this website
• Public authorities, when the law requires it

Some of these providers are based outside the European Union, including in the United States. When data is transferred outside the EU, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

5. How long we keep it

• Requests that don’t become a booking: up to 12 months.
• Client and pet details: while you’re a client and up to 2 years after your last booking, so it’s easy to book again.
• Any records we’re legally required to keep: for as long as the law requires.
• Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.

6. Our newsletter

We only add you to our mailing list once you’ve signed up and confirmed your subscription from the email we send you. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time at hello@lagospetbuddies.com. Unsubscribing doesn’t affect anything else, like your bookings.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Just email hello@lagospetbuddies.com and we’ll reply within one month.

If you’re not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt).
